City Airport looms over Drew Primary School intruding on everyday life, offering both the promise of flight and a reminder of earthbound realities. Alex worked with sixty year 5 pupils to devise a sculpture, film and sound-work about flight and flying.

I didn’t want to make a piece that was just aeroplanes are bad or aeroplanes are good. I wanted some of the ambivalence there. There was an air of menace about the procession and it felt as ramshackle as Pier Parade itself, actually that felt about right. When this quite chaotic bundle of energy landed it was a sort of slightly ridiculous, dishevelled but proud, peacock. Alex Schady
